What is Yogic Relaxation Therapy

Relaxation is defined as the state of being when your mind and body are free from tension, anxiety, and stress. The help us manage stress, anxiety, and chronic pain, we can consciously induce therapeutic relaxation through restorative practices. The primary objective of yogic relaxation therapy is to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system. It seeks to combine principles of yoga therapy with the benefits of restorative yoga - both proven to help regulate the nervous system and encourage rest, healing, and rejuvenation. We often overlook our ability to rest, but it is just as important as a healthy diet, good sleep, and regular exercise. 

Why rest is important

When we relax, blood flow increases, providing us with more energy where it is depleted and calming us down when we have excess energy. This process helps create a calm, clear mind, which facilitates positive thinking and enhances cognition. Relaxation slows our heart rate, reduces blood pressure, and alleviates pain. Additionally, it aids digestion, allowing us to absorb essential nutrients more efficiently, which strengthens the immune system and helps us combat disease and stress. Deep relaxation ultimately slows down brain waves, rejuvenating the brain's chemistry. By consciously taking time to relax, we can counteract the stress chemicals in our bodies that lead to tension and fatigue. 

The relationship between emotional and psychological factors and pain is vast and complex. Effectively managing and releasing emotional stress and mental tension that contribute to pain and illness can have a profound impact on our overall health and vitality. A healthy mindset and strong emotional intelligence can significantly influence how we perceive and manage pain.     

What to expect / Things to keep in mind

Each session is unique and tailored to your specific needs. Be sure to make any specific requests before your session. This is similar to a guided yoga class but with a few extras. Expect gentle and grounding yoga postures combined with skillfull, therapeutic techniques and applications that quiet the mind, foster healing, and cultivate a deep sense of relaxation. Classes include, but are not limited to, restorative yoga practices, deep breathing exercises, meditation and mindfulness, guided imagery and visualization, progressive muscle relaxation, Yoga Nidra, sound therapy, and autogenic training. Auricular acupunture can also be combined with your session. 

Yogic Relaxation Therapy is safe for all. Please chat to me directly if you have any concerns or would like to discuss the structure of your session. Sessions can be done as one-on-one, duets, couples, or small groups. 

A complementary therapy to support
physical, mental, and emotional health

An initial consultation can be conducted to assess individual needs and symptoms and develop a treatment plan. Sessions can also be scheduled directly without a consultation if you wish to address a specific issue or are only interested in general/once-off sessions.
